A cruise or a cruise liner is a luxury ship. It a ship which is immensely luxuriated and promises a pleasurable journey the traveler a feel at home atmosphere. Cruise is passenger ship which has all the necessities and leisure available to its voyagers. While boarding a cruise one can get a feel of an ordinary journey. Cruise journeys make you feel as if you are traveling along with city. A cruise largely has everything that you might find in a city. Cruises have medical facilities, reading rooms, large and complacent suits, swimming pools, game rooms, lounge bars, discotheques, movie theaters, restaurants, clubs, huge lobbies, gyms, spa and beauty parlors etc. and what not one can find on a cruise. In the present times cruising has become an important segment of tourism industry as well. This has happened since over the time cruises more and more developed and with the growing advancement and progress it not that difficult people to afford a cruise journey with millions traveling through them every year. Cruise journey is also preferred since it is to and fro journey which returns the passenger to the original destination from where the journey had begun. Cruises earlier were not that famous as they are now. There used to be a lot of accidents due to lack of infrastructure. Cruises earlier could not cover such long distances as they are able cover now, may be that one reason amongst many others for people choosing not to travel by the cruises. Then earlier they were much expensive and so were avoided. The history of cruises dates back to the 1900s when the first ship was completed called as Prinzessin Victoria luise made by Albert ballin. Cruising initially became a big time trend gradually after the transatlantic crossing tradition which didn’t even used to last four days. The ocean and river liners were the ones gave a competition to cruises like the Titanic however it landed it a very dramatic collapse. Today amidst so much competition there are uncountable cruise lining industries established world wide. According to the statistics of 2005 cruise tourists estimated to a figure of 14 million. The largest cruise hub is in north America approximately (70%). Then was the European continent which accounted to 13% following the routes mostly via Mediterranean sea. Though there were still more cruises traveling via the Baltic Sea. Talking about the cruise liners it is important to take a note of the shipyards. Shipyards are the groups which construct the ships and cruises. Shipyard is huge business empire. These are the people who start from a scratch and create this huge city which floats on waves. Shipyard business is dominated by mainly European companies like Aker yards of Norway, Fincantieri of Italy. And Meyer Werft of Germany. Though there are many other shipyards which have built lots of cruise liners however when it comes to the big bosses of this market then these three take the ultimate credit. Lastly it is indeed a pride for all of us that we have cities floating on water but still it is a known fact that with advantages there are always a few disadvantages tagging. And in this case we have to deal with the environmental consequences caused by the cruise liners. The cruises though very beautiful but they are indeed massive waste releasers. The wastes are released into the water bodies and affect marine life. wastes like sewage, oily bilge water, solid wastes all are toxic and so they affect the plants and animals in various destructive ways. |
